PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To advantageously produce asymmetric 2-imidazolidinones that are useful in industry as an organic electrolyte, because it can highly dissolve a variety of organic compounds, a variety of inorganic salts and a variety of organic salts, or as a variety of additives. SOLUTION: This production process for asymmetric 2-imidazolidinones comprises the first step where an N-monosubstituted-1,2-ethanediamine is allowed to react with a carbonic diester to give the corresponding N-monosubstituted imidazolidinone; and the second step where the resultant N-monosubstituted imidazolidinone is allowed to react with a sulfuric diester, an alkyl halide, an alkenyl halide, an alkynyl halide, an acyl halide, acrylonitrile, an acrylic ester or a chlorocarbonic ester to produce the corresponding N,N'-disubstituted-2- imidazolidinone.
