PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the roll crown necessary for the initial stage as well as the reduction of a thermal crown and also to realize the miniaturization and cost reduction of equipment. SOLUTION: As for a 1st chamber having length equivalent to the width of a rolled stock having the minimum width of plural rolled stocks whose size is different, since the rolled stock 4 is always made to pass through that part in spite of the width size and that part is a rolling part, cooling water 3 is flowed into the 1st chamber through an inlet passage 9 and the roll surface faced to the opening part 8 of the chamber is cooled. As for the 2nd chamber 7, the roll surface facing to the opening part 8 of the chamber 7 is cooled with the chamber 7 situated in the rolling part by flowing the cooling water 3 into the chamber 7 through the inlet passage 9 from an inlet pipe 11b of the cooling water by closing a switching valve 12a and also opening a switching valve 12b. In the chambers 7 situated in a non-rolling part by opening the switching valve 12a and also closing the switching valve 12b and flowing steam 2 into the chamber 7 through the inlet passage 9 from a steam inlet pipe 11a, the roll surface facing to the opening part 8 of the chamber 7 is heated.
