PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel ensuring a selective changeover between the engagement and disengagement of a click gear and a click pawl with each other without the need of radially enlarging the reel body. SOLUTION: This fishing reel is equipped with a reel body 1, a rotator 10 comprising a nearly cylindrical spool 11 mounted rotatably on a spool shaft 4 fitted to the reel body 1 and capable of reeling/unreeling a fishline through its rotation, a click gear 25 mounted on one party, the reel body 1 or the rotator 10, and a click pawl 34c mounted on the other party so as to be engageable/ disengageable on/off the click gear 25; the engagement/disengagement of the click gear 25 and the click pawl 34c with each other is conducted in such a manner as to move one of them relative to the other in the direction of the spool shaft 4.
