PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new D-luciferin-O-β-D-glucuronide derivative useful as a quick and sensitiveβ-glucuronidase activity determination reagent, E.coli detection reagent, etc., by using the derivative as a substrate. SOLUTION: The new D-luciferin-O-β-D-glucuronide (salt) is expressed by formula I (R is H, an organic ammonium or an alkali metal atom). The derivative is useful as a quick and sensitiveβ-glucuronidase activity determination reagent, E.coli detection reagent comprising aβ-glucuronidase activity determination reagent and aβ-galactosidase activity determination reagent, etc., using the derivative as a luminescent substrate. The compound can be produced by reacting a 1-halogenoglucuronic acid derivative of formula II (R1 is an acyl; R2 is an alkyl; Y is a halogen) with a 2-cyano-6-hydroxybenzothiazole derivative, successively or simultaneously reacting with a D-cysteine derivative and removing the protecting group from the product.
