Device for applying labels to a web

The labels are guided on a supporting belt (24,24') which moves in steps at right angles to the receiving belt, so that they are delivered sideways to the latter. The labels are stiff enough to undergo a sharp change in direction through a guide element (31,31'). A part of each label is released from the supporting belt, which advances so that it is pushed over the receiving belt in order to form an adhesive connection with the latter. The guide elements are located at the sides of the receiving belt, and can be slid at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the latter as the supporting belt advances. At the end of the advance, the elements can be guided back to their initial position beside the receiving belt.
