PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method and a device which identify errors by tracking the execution sequence of a programmable DSP program for radio telephone and dedicated control and deciding an actual execution sequence. SOLUTION: A digital signal processor(DSP) uses variable instruction length, has high code density, easily performs programming and is optimized so as to execute with low power consumption and high efficiency. A tracking FIFO which tracks the sequence of an instruction address is provided and helps a debug of software and hardware. Only the addresses of instructions of M+K and P+Q just before uncontinuous points and instructions P and R just after them are stored in the tracking FIFO to economize space. Since the sequences of instruction length SEC-LPC are stored in the tracking FIFO, the sequences of instruction addresses can be reconstructed by interpolating between the two uncontinuous points (P to P+Q).
