PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminance/chrominance signal separation circuit that can display a same still picture again even after display of the still picture is once stopped and restoring to the operation of usual luminance/chrominance signal separation. SOLUTION: An inter-line luminance/chrominance signal separation circuit 5 utilizes line correlation and an inter-frame luminance/chrominance signal separation circuit 7 utilizes frame correlation to separate a composite color television signal into a luminance signal and a chrominance signal. A 1st switch 12 and a 2nd switch 16 interrupt a write control signal to control write of a composite color television signal to a frame memory 8. A motion detection signal frame side fixing circuit 13 sets a motion coefficient detected by a motion detection circuit 9 to be a completely still picture value and a motion detection signal line side fixing circuit 15 sets a motion coefficient to a complete moving picture value.
