PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a communication controller that is not affected by bus specifications or the like in the inside of a computer and can flexibly change its configuration. SOLUTION: Communication adaptors 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 are connected to a serial bus 16 at the outside of a computer main body 10. This serial bus 16 is in compliance with the standards USB or IEEE 1394. The computer main body 10 downloads a program to execute a partial function on a protocol layer to each communication adaptor. The computer main body 10 executes the function of a host layer on the protocol layer by an application, and each adaptor executes partial function on the protocol layer by the downloaded program to support the communication protocol as a whole.
