PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend the application range of a virtual studio by using the best grid pattern generated by generating the best series for identification based on probability density with a condition decided by varying intervals in proportion with the large/small of an expected error from the standard deviation of an error of an invariable compound ratio to the calculated perspective transformation of a camera. SOLUTION: An object 1 is photographed by a studio camera 4 with a chromakey back panel 2 where a best grid pattern 3 is drawn in blue, etc., of light and shade two colors as a background. Digital picture data converted from this analog picture signal by an AD 6 is memorized by a frame buffer 7, and then processed by an arithmetic processing circuit 8 to detect the apex coordinates of the pattern 3 to calculate the compound ratio. By this constitution, a picture processor 5 estimates a camera parameter by coordinating the pattern 3 in the picture and the pattern 3 of the source of a back panel 2 and outputs it to a CG generation circuit 10. Thus, the camera can optionally be tilted to the pattern without troubling camera work.
