PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the light absorptivity of a silver halide photographic sensitive material and to attain high sensitivity by adsorbing a dye chromophore on in one or more layers and by selenium-sensitizing the silver halide grains. SOLUTION: When a silver halide photographic sensitive material is obtained using selenium sensitized silver halide grains, a dye chromophore is adsorbed on the silver halide grains in one or more layers, preferably >=1.2 layer, particularly preferably >=1.7 layer, most preferably >=2 layers. A particularly preferred method for attaining the adsorbed state is a method using a dye having at least one aromatic group. The dye of the formula is used as a preferred combining dye. In the formula, each of D1 and D2 is a dye chromophore, L1 is a divalent combining group or a single bond, each of (q) and (r) is an integer of 1-100, M1 is a counter ion equilibrating an electric charge and m1 is a number required to neutralize electric charges in one molecule.
