PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a region to be viewed which is a specific portion exclusive of a display section visible even in a dark place without making its structure intricate by emitting light toward the region to be viewed disposed separately from an electro-optic element from a second surface. SOLUTION: A personal computer 200 of a note book type has a main body section 210 having an operation input section 211, such as a keyboard, on the front surface and the display section 220 having a liquid crystal display panel 221 of a reflection type. A light source 222, into which a light transmission plate 223 is built and arranged on the display surface side of the liquid crystal display panel 211, is built into the side part of the display surface. An original tray 212 is connected to the side pat on the side opposite to the side of the main body 210 into which the light source 222 is built. The display device is so constituted that the leakage light is released from the light transmission plate 223 in a prescribed irradiation range Q sideways from the front surface side. This irradiation range Q nearly corresponds to the position of the original tray 212 and irradiates the original 213 arranged on the original tray 212.
