PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform occlusion culling more exactly and at high speed in a three-dimensional computer graphics system. SOLUTION: Different virtual colors VC1, VC2, VC3, VC4 are assigned to each of four objects A, B, C, D at a level of detail formed by reducing the number of polygons and an image viewed from a viewpoint P is drawn on a frame buffer. When only parts of the objects A and B are viewed, only virtual colors VC1, VC2 appear on the frame buffer and the virtual colors VC3, VC4 do not appear there. Consequently, the objects C and D are judged to the occluded to other objects. |
