The method involves controlling a parameter representing the drive unit torque according to the driver's demand, whereby the parameter is limited during a transition from deceleration, idling or braking phases into the traction phase. The slip of at least one drive wheel is determined during the deceleration, idling or braking phase and a limiting value for the parameter is derived depending on the slip. An Independent claim is also included for an arrangement for controlling a drive unit.
