PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject cosmetic which does not absorb all of the ultraviolet rays corresponding to UV-A region and does not produce black melanin pigments but tawny to red, nonblack melanin pigments through utilizing enzyme tyrosinase action by including a specific kynurenine or the like as an active ingredient. SOLUTION: This cosmetic is obtained by including at least one selected from kynurenine of the formula (X is H, OH or the like; R is H or a lower alkyl; A is a mineral acid, an acidic mucopolysaccharide or the like), a kynurenine derivative and its salt as an active ingredient. The content of the above compound in its use is preferably 0.08-3 wt.%. This cosmetic produces preferably tawny to red, nonblack melanin pigments which are kinds of xanthommatin and exerts effects of tanning, decreasing drabness, and increasing transparent feeling and is capable of exerting effect of the sunburn skin which looks healthy and is desirable from an overall point of view.
