PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cartridge form of mechanical seal which can carry out the assembly work to a rotary apparatus, and a maintenance work easily. SOLUTION: A still side seal element 1 and a rotation side seal element 2 are connected integrally by plural setting claws 3. The still side seal element 1 has an installing case 4; a still sealing ring held in the installing case 4; and a circular positioning surface 46 formed in the installing case 4. The rotation side seal element 2 has a sleeve 7 inserted in a rotary shaft 1; a rotary sealing ring installed to the sleeve 7; a stopper ring 9 inserted to the sleeve 7; and the first and the second set screws 91 and 82 screwed in to the stopper ring 9. The setting claws 3 have an axial line direction positioning part 34 injected and engaged to an engaging hole formed to the sleeve 7; and a radial direction positioning part 33 contacted and engaged to the positioning surface 46.
