PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cylinder fuel injection engine capable of changing the stratified condition of injected fuel in response to an operating range. SOLUTION: This center injection type cylinder fuel injection engine is provided with a combustion chamber formed up in a space between the cylinder bore upper part of a cylinder block where a piston slides, and a cylinder head mounted with an intake valve and an exhaust valve, faced to the combustion chamber, and concurrently, an ignition plug 22 and an injector 21 mounted to the cylinder head roughly at the center part in the upper surface of the combustion chamber. In the engine, a cavity 20 for a stratified layer formed out of a deep dish part 30 at the center, and of shallow dish parts 31 and 32 in the circumference of the deep dish part, is formed up in the upper surface of a piston 7.
