PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wiping device which copes with both ultrathin steel strip and steel strip strict in surface quality. SOLUTION: This device is provided with plural wiping rolls which are lined up in the conveying direction L of the steel strip 2 and plural back-up rolls 5 which are faced to the surface of the steel strip across those wiping rolls and with which the wiping rolls are pressed to the surface of the steel strip 2. An upper stationary wiper 13 which is installed between the back-up rolls 5 and the steel strip 2 instead of the wiping rolls is provided. The stationary wiper 13 consists of plural elastic body holding rolls 15 which are lined up in the conveying direction L of the steel strip 2, locking keys 16 with which the mutual elastic body holding rolls 15 are connected and the rotation of each elastic body holding roll 15 is restrained and the elastic bodies 17 which are porjected from each elastic body holding roll 15 toward the surface of the steel strip 2.
