PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mail processing device excellent in treatment of mail of various sized such as standard-size mail and non-standard size mail. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a size detecting means 2 for detecting size of mail, a discriminating means 5e for sorting the mail into first- class mail and second-class mail based on size data of the mail obtained by the detection of the size detecting means, an image readout means 3 for reading the image of the mail, an area detecting means 4a for detecting an address area in which address information is recorded from the image data of the whole mail obtained from the readout of the image readout means, and a display means 5c, 5d for displaying the image data of the whole mail when the mail is identified as the first-class mail by the discriminating means and magnifidedly, under displaying the image data in the address area obtained by the detection of the area detecting means when the mail is identified as the second-class mail.
