PURPOSE: A cemented carbide insert is provided to accomplish an improved toughness behavior and high resistance against plastic deformation. CONSTITUTION: A cemented carbide has a composition containing WC, 2 to 10 weight % Co, cubic phases of carbide of 4 to 12 weight % of metal selected from IVa family, Va family or VIa family of periodic chart, and preferably Ti, Ta and Nb. A Co binder phase is 0.75 to 0.90 WC ratio. The insert has a binder phase enriched surface zone(A) with no cubic phase carbide basically, and a thickness of 20 micro-meter or lower. The content of the binder phase basically increases from an edge to a center of the insert along a line(C) bi-sectioning the edge of the insert. |
