<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deformation of a pillar caused by deformation of a door to reduce possibility of interference between the pillar and an occupant, and to obtain an effective shock absorbing effect at the time of interference between the door and the occupant. SOLUTION: This side part structure has a door 3 provided on a side face of a vehicle body 1 to allow opening and closing; a collision energy absorbing member 9 provided in the door 3; a door engagement means 10 for engaging the door 3 with a center pillar 7 in a closing state of the door 3; and a door engagement release means 13 capable of releasing the engaging state of the door engagement means 10. When a collision detection sensor 16 detects collision of another vehicle against the side part of the vehicle, a command of a controller 18 operates the door engagement release means 13 to release the engaging state of the door engagement means 10. The collision energy absorbing member 9 can be replaced by an air bag.</p> |
