PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and speedily input the character string of a uniform resource locator(URL) or the like. SOLUTION: Terminal equipment 10 is a handy type of a remote controller style having a character reading function. When the terminal equipment 10 is pressed on the surface of paper, a read SW 16 is turned on, a character recognizing mode is set and the characters of the character string of the URL or the like on the surface of paper read by a reading device 15 are recognized and stored in a RAM 26. Corresponding to pressing of a transmit button 18, that stored character string is transmitted to a main body device by a transmission/reception device 29.
