PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device and a display device in which the light incident to a light collecting part having the width larger than the thickness of the exiting face portion can be efficiently condensed and the incident light can be effectively used. SOLUTION: The device is equipped with a light introducing member 2 having a first reflector 21 or a second reflector 22 in front of the end face p of an exiting face or the end q of a back face in the propagation direction of light. Or the device is equipped with a light transmission plate having a reflection plane on the exiting face or a reflection plane on the back side. Thus, most of the light entering at an angle within the limit incident angle can be introduced into the inner part of the light transmission plate by reflection on these reflection faces.
