<p>The users of the public telephone system are each provided with a mobile handset which communicates with a base transceiver. This may be connected by a line to a similar public telephone, and includes a metering module enabling on-the-spot charging for use of the public telephone facility. The metering module preferably works with a chip card including a memory from which units may be deleted or added to, possibly with a display provided to indicate this information to the user.</p> |
