PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focusing device executing reliable automatic focusing by surely detecting a focusing position regardless of the contrast and the illuminance of an object with simple constitution by a single AF system. SOLUTION: In an electronic still camera reading out signal charge accumulated corresponding to an object image formed by an image pickup optical system 1 from a CCD 5 and displaying it on an LCD 10 through an image pickup circuit 6, an A/D converter 7, a buffer memory 8 and a D/A converter 9 or recording it in a memory for recording 12 through a compression/elongation circuit 11; this focusing device is provided with an AF processing part 14 having a function to obtain the signal quantity of the high frequency component of an image signal from a CCD 10 extracted by a high-pass filter 31 as an AF evaluated value by a cumulative adder 32 and obtain an AF evaluated value by adding the AF evaluated values obtained by scanning performed twice by an adder 35 after storing them in memories 34-1 and 34-2. |
