PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the sensitivity of a solid-state image pickup element by preventing the occurrence of lens welding and effectively utilizing the light beams made incident to inter-lens gap areas. SOLUTION: A solid-stage image pickup element has a flattened layer 2, provided with a groove section 13 surrounding each light receiving section on a substrate, on which a plurality of light receiving sections is formed and convex lenses 1 outside the groove section 13 of the flattened layer 2 and concave lenses 15 inside the groove section 13. Since not only the light beams made incident to the convex lenses 1 are condensed on the light receiving section, but the light beams made incident to the concave lenses 15 are also made incident to the light receiving sections, after the light light beams are refracted through the lenses 15, the sensitivity of the image pickup element can be improved, and at the time, smear can be reduced. Because of the groove section 13, in addition, no welding occurs between the lenses 1 and 15.
