PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the time required for the formation of an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer. SOLUTION: The wavelength selective reflection filter 27 of an optical multiplexer/demultiplexer 11 (31) is formed from a liquid crystal-containing material containing a cholesteric liquid crystal. When the axis of the helix of the cholesteric liquid crystal injected in a groove 25 of the optical multiplexer/demultiplexer is aligned in a specified direction, the wavelength selective reflection which optically connects a first optical waveguide 21 and a second optical waveguide 23 can be realized. Therefore, a time-consuming aligning process necessary to adjust the reflection direction of a dielectric multilayered film filter for a conventional optical multiplexer/demultiplexer is not necessary. Especially, by forming the groove by dicing, the special alignment treatment is not necessary. |
