Compounds (I) obtained by reacting 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine or -piperazine hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) compound(s) (IIA-J) with methylene chloride, bromide or iodide are new. Compounds (I) obtained by reacting 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-piperidine or -piperazine hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) compound(s) of formulae (IIA-J) with methylene chloride, bromide or iodide are new; R1, R2 = hydroxyl (OH) or hydroxyorganyl. Independent claims are also included for: (a) compounds of formula (IA); -(O-G-O-CH2-)n- (IA) (b) compositions containing organic material sensitive to damage by light, oxygen and/or heat and compound(s) (I) as stabilizer. n = 1-100; G = a group derived from a compound of formula (IIA-J).
