A plant growth substrate comprises a fiber mat based on an organic fiber fleece with a fertilizer and a biodegradable binder. A multi-component fiber mat for plant growth promotion includes at least: (A) a fleece layer of fiber-forming organic substances; (B) an additive comprising a finely divided fertilizer; and (C) a biodegradable binder which fixes components (A) and (B) and acts as an adhesive layer for (A).
