A composite membrane (10) comprising a first layer (50) comprising an adhesive composition and a second layer (40) comprising a mesh, wherein the mesh is directly embedded in a surface of the first layer of adhesive with areas of the adhesive composition exposed through apertures in the mesh, the mesh having between 10 and 30 warps/100 mm and between 10 and 30 wefts/100 mm. The adhesive may be bituminous. The membrane may be applied to a building substrate such as a floor or wall (100) and tiles applied to the membrane with or without adhesive. |
