摘要 The invention relates to a communication network comprising a first network (10) allowing for data to be transmitted at a first bit rate, and a second network (12) allowing for data to be transmitted at a second bit rate. A first terminal (14) comprises an encoder (26, 28) which from a signal to be coded can generate a scaled data flow with at least two data layers. The data layers differ in terms of their information content relative to the signal to be coded and the scaled data flow has a bit rate which is smaller than or equal to the first bit rate. A decoder is located in a second terminal (16) and is able to decode a received data flow. The first and the second network are linked by a network connecting unit (18) which can be operated such that it modifies the received dataflow by removal of at least one data layer in such a way that the modified scaled data flow contains a modified bit rate which is smaller than or equal to the second bit rate, and such that it introduces said modified scaled data flow into the second network (12).
