<PICT:0702118/III/1> Finely - divided solids contaminated with combustible matter are stripped and then regenerated by burning, both operations being carried out with the solids in the fluidised condition in zones which are in heat exchange with one another, and solids are separated from the combustion gases and mixed with the solids to be stripped. As shown, solids having carbonaceous deposits enter vessel 1 at 5, stripping steam being introduced at 3 and air for burning at 4; the treated powder leaves at 6. Dust is removed from the spent combustion gas in cyclone separator 8 and returned through dividing wall 2 to the stripping zone. A further cyclone separator 7 may be provided to remove solids from the stripping gas and to pass these solids to the burning zone. The solids treated may be decolorising clays, filter aids, or catalysts, which have been contacted with an oil or other carbonaceous liquid or vapour. |
