PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary device of a sewing machine allowing an operator to securely recognize a part of an object to be sewn with light securely transmitting the object. SOLUTION: This auxiliary device comprises a support plane 1 for supporting an object to be sewn sent to a stitching part of the sewing machine, a recess 6 formed on the support plane 1 ahead of the stitching part of the sewing machine in the direction of sending an object to be sewn, a light source 11 for generating rays having an optical axis 10 upward aslant toward the direction of sending an object to be sewn through the recess 6, and a cover 8 nearly on the same plane with the support plane 1 for covering the recess 6. The rays have a quantity large enough to transmit an object to be sewn on the cover 8 through the cover 8.
