PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject inorganic rare-earth metal-carrying nano-size (host-guest) complex in which an inorganic host compound is allowed to support a rare earth metal ion or the like and the complex has excellent luminescence property, disperses homogeneously in a medium, for example, in a solvent without causing turbidity and is useful as an optically functional material. SOLUTION: An inorganic host compound (preferably zeolite, at least one selected from inorganic layer compounds and meso porous body) is allowed to support at least one selected from rare earth metal ion and rare earth metal complex to give the objective complex of nano-size particle with an average particle size of 1-200 nm. In a preferred embodiment, this complex has a Franck- Condon constant of 0-0.061 derived from the interatomic distance of the atoms that constitute the rare earth metal complex. The supported rare earth metal complex is preferably selected from those represented by formulas I and II [M is a rare earth atom; n1, n2 are each 2-4; Rf1-Rf3 are each a 1-22C aliphatic group or the like; X1-X3 are each a IVA atom or the like; n3-n5 are each 0, 1; and Y is C-Z group(Z is H, D (deuterium) or the like)].
