PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slag detecting method, with which the slag is accurately detected and the residual steel quantity in a converter is reduced and also, the flow-out of the slag into a ladle is suitably prevented. SOLUTION: The detected value from an electromotive force measuring sensor 6 is sampled, and the value sampled by the electromotive force measuring sensor 6 in the interval before 60 sec from the point of temp. when the slag 16 is detected, is taken as wave-form data and the wave-form data are classified and stored in a storing device 24e according to the steel tapping state. Then, at the following steel tapping, the wave-form data according to the steel tapping state at this steel tapping are read out from the storing device 24e and the changing quantity in the read-out wave-form data is learned and calculated, and a threshold value to be used for the slag detection at this steel tapping is calculated based on the calculating result.
