PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the supply of kerosene to avoid the lack of it in winter by producing kerosene which contains a desulfurized kerosene fraction produced by hyrogenating a straight-run kerosene fraction obtained by topping and a directly desulfurized gas oil lot-boiling-point fraction obtained from a fuel oil direct desulfurization apparatus, each in a specified amount. SOLUTION: This kerosene contains 99-70 vol.% desulfurized kerosene fraction produced by hydrogenating a straight-run kerosene fraction obtained by topping and 1-30 vol.% directly desulfurized gas oil low-boiling-point fraction (with a b.p. range of 130-330 deg.C) obtained from a fuel oil direct desulfurization apparatus or is produced by compounding 99-70 vol.% straight-run kerosene fraction obtained by topping with 1-30 vol.% directly desulfurized gas oil low- boiling-point fraction (with a b.p. range of 130-330 deg.C) obtained from a fuel oil direct desulfurization apparatus and hydrogenating the mixture. Preferably, the directly desulfurized gas oil low-boiling-point fraction obtained from a fuel oil direct desulfurization apparatus has a b.p. range of 150-280 deg.C. Thus obtained kerosene is equivalent to conventional kerosene in trerms of average fire spread time, amount of tar attached, 95% distillation point, smoke point, color, and copper plate corrosion in the burning test.
