PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce nitrogen monoxide without causing any activity deterioration to produce the air and the carbon dioxide which are harmless to human body by bringing the nitrogen monoxide into contact with the catalyst formed, by depositing rhodium and palladium on the activated carbon carrier whose surface is treated with acid. SOLUTION: The catalyst is formed by depositing the rhodium and/or the palladium on the activated carbon carrier whose surface is treated with the acid. That is, metal is deposited after subjecting the surface of the activated carbon to acid treatment in order to efficiently execute the deposition of the metal. At this time, the acid treatment is executed by using concd. nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, etc. As the method for depositing the rhodium and the palladium, impregnating method, precipitating method, kneading method, incipient-wet method or the like is exemplified. Moreover, the reduction of the nitrogen monoxide is executed in the presence of the catalyst. Prior to the reaction, the hydrogen reduction of the catalyst is executed at first. Thereafter, the nitrogen monoxide is circulated and reated. |
