PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the reading capability of an image reader from being degraded by preventing unnecessary external light or dust from entering into an optical unit even when the upper lid of the optical unit is also used for a carrier guide. SOLUTION: This apparatus includes hole parts 401, 402, 403 where respective rollers 110, 111 for conveying a document are mounted, conveys the document on the upper surface and is provided with a carrier guide 107 mounted so as to cover the upper part of the optical unit at a rear face. Therefore, even when the upper lid of the optical unit is also used at the carrier guide 107, it is possible to prevent unnecessary external light or dust from entering the optical unit. It is also thus possible to prevent the reading capability of an image reader from being degraded.
