PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a filler for resins, consisting of powder of a specific dried gel or heated gel with a specified average particle size, and capable of improving the mechanical properties of synthetic resins esp. at high temperatures through being compounded in the resins. SOLUTION: This filler is such one as to consist of powder of a dried gel or heated gel produced by the hydrolysis of the alkoxy groups and the dehydrocondensation of the hydroxyl groups formed from an alkoxysilane compound in the presence of water and be designed to be <=100μm in average particle size. This filler is obtained, for example, by pulverizing so as to be <=100μm in average particle size a dried or heated gel produced by evaporating to dryness at the final temperature of 60-300 deg.C a solution comprising water and compound(s) of the formula(R1-O-)1-Si-R2k (R1 is a 1-6C alkyl; R2 is a univalent organic group; 1 is 2-4; k is 0-2; (l+k) is 4) and/or the formula (R3 is a 1-6C alkyl; R4 is a univalent organic group; R5 is a bivalent organic group; m, n, o and p are each 0-3; (m+o) and (n+p) are each 3; (m+n) is 2-6).
