PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling record in an optical disc is provided to set an optimum recording power and a recording pulse type by detecting a jitter amount in an optimum power control(OPC) process. CONSTITUTION: An equalizer(32) amplifies a high frequency signal inputted through an input line(31) to equalize the high frequency signal as a high frequency signal which is more than a uniform level. A comparator(34) compares the high frequency signal inputted from the equalizer(32) and a slice level and converts the high frequency signal into a pulse signal. A low pass filter(36) integrates the pulse signal of the comparator(34) to output the pulse signal as a slice level. A high pass filter(38) performs a high pass filtering of the high frequency inputted through the input line(31). A digitizer(40) receives the output signal of the high pass filter(38) and converts the received output signal into a digital signal. A phase difference detector(42) compares a phase of the pulse signal of the comparator(34) and a phase of the digital signal of the digitizer(40) and detects a phase difference. A microcomputer(44) determines an optimum recording power and a recording pulse type based on a phase difference signal inputted from the phase difference detector(42).
