PURPOSE: An apparatus for sensing papers of an office machine is provided to effectively control a front margin of a paper by precisely recognizing a position of a front end of a pickup paper and check a pickup of the paper in a short time by comparing output current values of an optical sensor. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for sensing papers of an office machine includes an actuator(16) pivoted between grooves mounted with a conveying roller(12) and an idle roller(14) for rotating by different angle depending an insertion standby position or an insertion position occupied by a front end part of a pickup paper picked up by a pickup roller, an optical sensor(18) mounted with a predetermined distance from an end part of the actuator for outputting different values according to the rotation angle of the actuator, and a control unit for controlling the driving of the pickup roller and the conveying roller on the basis of the output values of the optical sensor.
