PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remotely confirm the connection direction information of an opposite transmission device when the connection work of a transmission line is performed by collecting and transferring the direction information of opposed transmission devices and automating direction setting between respective transmission devices from a monitoring controller. SOLUTION: This system consists transmission devices 1 to 5 housing a synchronous digital hierarchy(SDH) optical transmission line, transmission lines 6 to 13 which comprise optical fibers, etc., and perform signal transmission among the devices 1 to 5 and a monitoring controller 14 performing centralized control of an SDH network. Then, a direction table preparing part prepares a direction table from received direction information and information obtained from a self-direction interface part, a transmission and reception controlling part of the controller 14 transmits and receives a transmission signal among the lines 6 to 13, and a direction setting part sets a direction by using direction tables received from the devices 1 to 5. When direction setting is instructed by an instruction from a display operating part, the controller 14 receives the direction tables from the devices 1 to 5 and the direction setting part performs direction setting of the lines 6 to 13.
