PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control light/shade gradations by segments and to verify and correct essential pulse widths for the colors of phosphors by suppressing unexpected grid signal generation in a non-emission state in the driving circuit of a fluorescent display device. SOLUTION: This driving circuit combines the output of segment data latch circuits 21 by an OR circuit 22 and combines the outputted arithmetic result and the output of a grid signal generating circuit 24 by an AND circuit 13 to eliminate unnecessary grid signal generation. Further, a RAM for light/shade gradation control for switching the pulse width of the output data of the segment data latch circuits 21 between×1 and×1/2 is built in and a color kind storage register is provided. When an essential duty is not set, self-diagnosis, re-setting, and correction are carried out.
