PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily learn the area of an arbitrary region in a place detached from a photographing camera position by designating a prescribed number of measuring points on the screen of a display means, finding angle information on the measuring points and measuring the real area of the region surrounded by segments connecting the measuring points, based on distance information and angle information which are obtained by a measuring means. SOLUTION: Three measuring points P1, P2 and P3 are designated on the screen of an LCD display part, and distances from the respective measuring points P1, P2 and P3 from an original point O are obtained by using a measuring mechanism for auto-focus in a camera. An angle which P1 and P2 make against the point O is found from the focal distance of a photographing lens and the distance between P1 and P2. The actual distance between P1 and P2 is obtained from the distance between O and P1, the distance between O and P2 and the angle that P1 and P2 make against the point O. The distance between P3 and P1 is similarly obtained and the area ofΔP1P2P3 is obtained. The number of measuring points is increased, the region is divided into triangles and the area of arbitrary form is obtained.
