<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the luminance dispersion and shorten the activation treatment time of the whole electron source by dividing a plurality of electron emitting elements into treatment units, consisting of a plurality of element groups, ending the first activation steps of all the treatment units, and repeating this to execute the activation treatment up to the final activation steps. SOLUTION: Electron emitting elements on an electron source substrate are divided into a plurality of blocks, the activation treatment is also divided into a plurality of steps, and the activation steps are gradually performed with respect to each block. Therefore, even if the gas atmosphere within an image forming device is changed with the lapse of the activation time, all the blocks are influenced similarly thereby. Accordingly, the difference in element characteristics between the initially activated block and the finally activated block can be suppressed to manufacture an image forming device with good uniformity. At this time, the division of the activation steps can be performed on the basis of the voltage application time, the current value carried to the elements, or the activating gas partial pressure within the image forming device.</p> |
