PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an expandable structure provided with a fault countermeasure means by which a final and desired expansion state can be realized even on the occurrence of a fault. SOLUTION: The inching device is provided with a base guide 32, a moving body 33 that is kept on the base guide by a friction force and placed straightly movably along the base guide 32, an inertia body 34 that is placed straightly movably along the base guide 32, an electromagnetic attracting force generating means that develops an electromagnetic attracting force between the moving body 33 and the inertia body 34, an electromagnetic repulsion shock generating means that momentarily develops an electromagnetic repulsion force between the moving body 33 and the inertia body 34, and a tension provision means 35 that pulls the inertial body 34 in the direction opposite to the moving body 33.
