The present invention provides a method of inhibiting binding of a chaperone protein with its client protein or client polypeptide. This method comprises contacting coumarin or a coumarin derivative with a chaperone protein, such that the coumarin or the coumarin derivative binds the chaperone protein, which inhibits the chaperon protein from binding its client protein or clien t polypeptide.
