PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a common mode choke coil of a surface mounting type and of a novel closed magnetic path structure, which can realize miniaturization and have a combination of a saddle-type magnetic core, superior in inductor characteristics and a columnar magnetic core. SOLUTION: This common mode chock coil of a surface mounting type and of a closed magnetic path structure includes a saddle-type magnetic core 11 of a nearly rectangular section, as viewed from its top and having four columnar leg parts 12a to 12d extended downwards at four corners of an upper plate part 14, directly mounted external electrodes 13a to 13d, which form a conductive coating layer at tip ends of the columnar leg parts 12a to 12d of the saddle-type magnetic core 11, a columnar magnetic core 17 transversely crossed as fitted into two opposed recessed grooves formed between the leg parts 12a and 12c, and 12b and 12d of the saddle-type magnetic core 11, and a pair of insulator-coated windings 18 and 19 (pair winding) wound around the columnar magnetic core 17. Ends of the windings 18 and 19 are electrically connected through thermocompression bonding to peripheral surface of the external electrodes 13a to 13d respectively.
