PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a patchwork design appropriateness judging device capable of automatically judging whether or not a patchwork design is appropriate for a desired sewing means. SOLUTION: A CPU extracts a line segment whose both end points are on an external peripheral line among line segments constituting the patchwork design (S404), extracts such a line segment as does not include another line segment in one line segment after separating a piece (S406) and when it can be extracted (S408: Yes), one piece is separated by the extracted line piece (S410). Continually, a design after separation is set to be a judging object (S412) to execute separation by unit of one piece (S404 to S414). Then, in the case of using all the line segments (S414: No), since it means that all the line segments could be separated by unit of one piece, an appropriate judgment flag is exhibited (S416).
