ROSIN-BASED EMULSION SIZING AGENT AND SIZING OF PAPER USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rosin-based emulsion sizing agent having excellent sizing effect and hot water resistance free from reduction in sizing performances in a wide range of pH 5-9, especially a papermaking range of high pH range. SOLUTION: This rosin-based emulsion sizing agent is obtained by dispersing a rosin ester (A) prepared by reacting an alkenyl-substituted succinic acid (a) with a rosin (b) and a polyhydric alcohol (c) in the presence of a metal oxide (d) as a catalyst under heating or a fortified rosin ester prepared by reacting the component (a) with the component b, the component c and anα,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid (e) in the presence of the metal oxide (d) as a catalyst under heating into water by using an emulsification dispersant (C).
