PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for remarkably reducing the content of a non- reacted monomer in a thermoplastic resin produced from the specific monomer such as a maleimide-based monomer as a raw material, and to provide the maleimide-based polymer having the remarkably reduced content of the non- reacted monomer. SOLUTION: This method for producing a thermoplastic resin comprises polymerizing a monomer component containing anα,β-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride or its derivative. Therein, the characteristic comprises adding at least one compound selected from dienic compounds and/or their precursors, such as a cyclic diene compound.
